The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics offers an undergraduate degree in Nutrition & Dietetics after 8 Semesters (48 months) of full-time study (Bachelor Level, Level 5A according to the ISCED classification of UNESCO). During the first seven semesters the course curriculum includes theoretical modules, tutorials, seminars and educational visits to work places (Food Industries, Catering Industries, Hospitals, etc.). Knowledge and skills are reinforced by laboratory exercises. All course modules are assigned with ECTS units, according to their work load. Laboratory exercises in Clinical Nutrition take place in Public Hospitals (bedside teaching). The total ECTS units of the studies are 240.

During the 8th semester, each student is obliged to submit an experimental/ epidemiological thesis, under the close supervision of a faculty member. The thesis is defended before a Committee of three faculty members, all with a related specialty, and an audience. The examiners evaluate the work quality, completeness and presentation of the thesis.

Students are also obliged to carry out a 6-month practical placement in the public or private sector. During this period they broaden their knowledge and gain experience on practical issues related to nutrition/dietetics. The practical placement is realized on the final semester of studies (8th) and only after the student has successfully completed 2/3 of the total ECTS units and all of the Specialization Modules.

On completion of their studies, graduates of the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics have obtained scientific and technical knowledge and all capabilities and skills, in order to work as Nutritionists-Dieticians in areas involving planning, programming, supervising and supporting nutritional applications for the healthy and critically ill populations.Alternatively, they can pursue postgraduate studies (see last page).
